This year, I didn’t receive one book or bookish gift card for Christmas. What?! I know. I did get a really cool Harry Potter themed gift from my aunt and uncle, and I used my Christmas money to buy a new bookshelf (that I’m obsessssssed with), but no one gave me books for the first time that I can remember.
The good thing is that, back in October, I signed up for Broke and Bookish Secret Santa!
Every year, The Broke and The Bookish (the same people who sponsor Top Ten Tuesdays) put together a huge Secret Santa game. Basically, you submit your answers to a questionnaire, you get assigned another person to send a gift to, and you receive a gift from your own Secret Santa.
And I have to say, my Secret Santa outdid herself this year.
Why yes, that is FIVE books, including:
- Yes, Please by Amy Poehler
- The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
- You Look Different in Real Life by Jennifer Castle
- Life after Life by Kate Atkinson
- A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb
Of these, only two (Amy Poehler’s book and Life After Life) were on my To Read list. The other three novels are suggestions by Manda, my secret santa, and I’ve already read two of these books (reviews coming soon — they were good!)
In addition to my FIVE books (I’m still in shock), I got a book with 300 Writing Prompts (perfect for an English teacher!), three blank journals, two packets of Texas bluebonnet seeds, a box of puppy treats for Arthur, a candle, and a locket from Etsy with a hot air ballon on it! I’m seriously in awe of how amazing this box of treats was. It was so thoughtful and well put together.
I’m so glad I participated this year in The Broke and The Bookish Secret Santa, and I hope that the person I sent my gifts to enjoyed their box of treats as much as I enjoyed mine!
