Spring is the roughest time for my reading. The weather is too beautiful, the days are longer (thanks, Daylight Savings!), and it’s just not as cozy to stay inside and read. That being said, I have SO MANY GOOD BOOKS on my Spring To Read list. This is the first year that I’ve really tried to plan my reading… to an extent. I’m trying to read library books before they are due back, along with working on knocking out the books on my Unread shelf on my bookshelf. Plus I’m doing a million challenges right now, so keeping track of that has me reading some specific books.
That being said, there are so many good books that I keep adding to my list, and I can’t seem to stop adding. Here are 10 books that are on my Spring To Read List that I hope to read over the course of the next few months.
Stay with Me by Ayobami Adebayo
I’m cheating just a little because I started this one yesterday, and man, does it just jump right into the action. Set in Nigeria, this book examines the cultural impact of polygamy in a modern society. (But it’s fiction, which instantly makes it more enjoyable.)
Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal
Ok, I really don’t know much about this book, other than that Reese Witherspoon picked it for her March book club pick. The book is set in India and features stories from multiple widows who are in a writing class. I may have to read this one over the weekend… I don’t know if my students’ parents would approve!
The Rules Do Not Apply by Ariel Levy
I have read so much nonfiction lately (well… so much more than usual), and this book has been on my radar since it came out. It’s a memoir, which I don’t typically enjoy, but Levy’s life circumstances sound amazing and super interesting!
The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan
This was my Book of the Month Club choice for March, in part because the story sounded interesting and in part because THAT COVER. Plus, it fulfills PopSugar’s “Author with the same name as you” prompt. This book sounds thoughtful and different and all the things I love about YA.
84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff
This book has been on my To Read list FOREVER. I even own it (I don’t remember where I got it though…). After reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, I’ve been itching to read more epistolary novels, and this one happens to be nonfiction! It features letters written between the author and a bookseller in London.
The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin
So I read this one AGES ago (like… before Goodreads was a thing), but I remember exactly none of it. I’m planning on using this for my second personal development book of the year.
Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
I picked this one up from Target on a whim because it was on sale and I have heard so much about it. The novel covers 300 years of Ghana, and it has won more prizes than I can write about right here. (I’m just realizing how diverse my spring will be… and I love it!)
They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
I MEAN WITH A TITLE LIKE THAT, how could I not? My book club always picks on me because I love books that make me cry, and when I KNOW that the characters both die, I just… I can’t wait to read this one.
The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
This book made its way around all of social media last month — I’ve never seen a book so completely take over Instagram before it debuted. However, it is SO. PRETTY. So I didn’t mind looking at pictures of it all day. (Also, I hear the story is pretty good as well! haha!)
Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
I’m kicking it old school with Kristin Hannah’s Firefly Lane. I loved The Nightingale and I hear this book is wonderful (if not as sad, because WWII…). I loved her writing, so I’m hoping this one doesn’t disappoint as it brings me into summer.
What do you think of my Spring To Read list? Which should I start with? Is there any I missed?
