Memorial Day has come and gone, my classroom is packed up, and the temps have already reached 95 degrees… summer is here! I’ve already finished two books this week (and it’s only Tuesday!), and I have BIG PLANS for the next few months. I have a long list, and today, I’m rounding up some of the books to read this summer.
When it comes to summer reading, I tend to go two ways: really light, or really big! I love laying in the sun with a cheesy romance or stunning thriller, but I also really enjoy using all of my time off to tackle the big, thoughtful books I’ve been procrastinating on the last few months. Granted, even my light and fluffy books tend to have a dark side, but I can’t really help who I am as a person and that I just really enjoy books that make me cry.

Light and Fluffy Books to Read this Summer
This book has been on my list for the longest time, but I recently moved it up the list after reading The Nightingale by the same author. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this one, and I think it’s the lightest and fluffiest on this list.
Back before Goodreads was a thing, I think I read this book. I have no way of tracking it, but I’m nearly certain I’ve read it already. That being said, I obviously remember nothing about it, and I’m excited to dive into this one and hopefully the full, magical series.
This one has been on my To Read list FOREVER, and I’m determined to tackle it sooner rather than later!
When researching books for the “Medical/Legal Thriller” prompt in one of my reading challenges for the year, I kept coming across this new release. Hopefully this one lives up to the hype!
This is a series that everyone raves about, but I haven’t been tempted to pick up. However, in an effort to branch out (and after having serious Red Queen withdrawals), I’ve decided to read this one this summer!
Big and Heavy Books to Read this Summer
Starting off real sad with this one! I’ve avoided reading the blurb on this novel, because I don’t want a single thing ruined. I’ve heard such great things and I’m looking forward to it!
Coming in at 925 pages, this is the biggest book on my To Read list! It’s also a super modern take on 1984, which I kind of hated. Hopefully this redeems the novel for me!
This was my May Book of the Month Club choice, and it had me hooked with the first line of the judge’s essay: “Don’t read this book if you’re looking for a fun escape!” I did say I was a sucker for books that made me cry, right?
I’m really interested in reading this take on virginity and the role our culture plays in its perception. I’m hoping to get some serious takeaways from this one.
I love The Handmaid’s Tale (even if I’m not caught up on the series), and I’m looking to add more Atwood to my life!
Where should I start? What are your summer plans? Let me know!
